Is it possible to view open files from a DFS Share? We use a DFS share for profiles for Dragon Naturally speaking and found that today a user has opened someone else's profile, preventing that user from using Dragon with their own profile. We are sure this was done by mistake but the Manage Open Files dialog from Share and Storage Management doesn't seem to list open files from the DFS share. We know they are connected to this server for the DFS source as no other others in other sites are currently using the software.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to view open files as part of a DFS share the same way you can Manage Open files from a regular Windows share?
Hi all,
I know this is more of a hardware question, but do anyone has any recommendation for a 10 Gbps RJ-45 (copper) switch? The reason I'm asking in this particular forum is because this 10 Gbps switch will be used to connect my Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Spaces file servers to my Hyper-V servers.
Thanks.
I have 2 DFS Replication groups and each group contains the same 2 member servers.
One group is set to replicate one drive pair between these members, and the other group is set to replicate another drive pair between the same member servers.
Replication works perfectly for one group / folder, but it does not even start on the other group.
This proves that there is no problem with the connectivity between the members, or to the AD.
The DFS Replication Health Report for the group that does not replicate shows no error, just 2 Warnings:
WARNINGS (2 servers with warnings)(Show All)
BOG-RODC (1 warning)
Reference member returned no replicated folders.
MTL-HV-FS01 (1 warning)
This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder BOG-RODC_D_Drive.
This is very weird, I don't see why it does not replicate, I'm pooling my hair out. Please help

Hello,
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 installed on RAID-array (12 HDD)
I use "Performance Monitor" for monitoring the disk activity.
My question is about "% Idle Time" counter.
This counter shows incorrect data for disk located on RAID-array - it shows ~0% even if only one HDD is busy in the RAID-array.
How can i fix this issue? I need to see the actual % idle time of RAID-array.
Hello Folks.
How can I enable "Unix Attributes tab" in Windows 2008 R2 SP1 without any reset or disconnect?
Tnx.
HI everyone from the following commands which one will export only folder level Security information.

I am using SYSINTERNALS SOFTWARE ShareEnum which is fast for see shared folder permission but the export is not good as i want
I have an existing Raid 1 array in windows server 2012R2 that is defined with a Virtual disk and placed in a storage pool. I have added an SSD drive to my server and would like to enable tiered storage to improve performance.
* Can I add an SSD to an existing virtual disk or storage space?
* Can I use an SSD to help with caching instead of using
Thanks!
Hi,
We are using Work Folders and it works for almost all. Since we had a lot of problems with the server complaining about file rights, we have replace the original server. But one user with W8.1 (of about 50) can't make the connection to the new server work, he gets an error. When I remove the "force" option in the group policy so he can set it up manually, he get's this error:
There was a problem setting up Work Folders. Please try again. (Details: An unexpected error occured. (0x80041293)
When I change him back to the old server, it starts to work again. Environment: Both servers are 2012R2 and the clients are W8.1/W7 and as I wrote earlier, it works for all other clients. I haven't found anything on the www with that error code (am I first with this problem?).

Hello all, today I was asked by my Manager to change the drive letters on a File Server. In these drives there are shared folders, so after I changed the letters I got a message saying that the shares have been changed and it asked me if I want to share
the folders with the new drive letter.
I selected to proceed (BTW, all the shared folders have special permissions for authenticated users - we want to use the Access-Based Enumeration) and then, when I went to the Server Manager-File and Storage Services-Shares to tik the "Enable access-based enumeration" box, I saw this message:
So, if I close this message by selecting the X button, I am able to tik the box. If not, then the box remains grey.
Another thing I changed on the server was some registry keys in order to tune server (I followed some instructions about "Tuning Parameters for SMB file servers")
Server runs on Win Server 2012 R2
Setup: Windows Server 2012 R2
Use: Company File Server
Issue: Under Microsoft-Windows-WorkFolders/WHC - Management Agent Log:
I see the following:
Event ID 9001: Credentials required for user
Event ID 9004: Your PC doesn't comply with your organization's security policies.
Event ID 9002: Work Folders detected a sync error. Check partnership status, network connectivity, and disk space.
When does this happen and what happens:
What I have done:
Any recommendations on resolution?
All,
Please patience with this question.... I am new to this file server design endeavor...
In Windows Server 2012 R2, is there a way to configure it so when having multiple shared volumes or disks attached, when copying files to one shared volume or disk and this one reaches its full capacity all the files, folders being copied start copying automatically onto the next available attached shared volume or disk?

Hello,
I have a enclosure device connected to PCIe HBA and I am not able to see the chassis serial number and the RPM of the devices that are connected to this HBA. The device has a Enclosure Services Process. I see the following error in the windows log. I am not able to find a description for this event Id. Any help/direction with regard to this error is appreciated.
"A storage enclosure failed to initialize. Return Code: The request is not supported."
The EventID is 403.
the source of the error is "Microsoft-Windows-StorageSpaces-Driver" per logs.
thanks

here is the plan.
i setup 2 x 2012r2 std with 1x 4tb drive attached to each of them.
I have installed dfs namespace and replication roles on each of them.
Currently our domain functional level is 2003, so when i go create a namespace it doesnt let me check off "ENABLE WINDOWS SERVER 2008 MODE".
1. What does this mean going forward if i create the namespace without this option checked?
a. once the functional level in the domain is raised can i enable this option in the namespace?
the plan is to MOVE currently existing san cif shares and windows file server shares to these 2 dfs servers(thats why the 4tb drive was added to each one so it can hold all this data)
2. How do i MOVE the data from these other cif and windows file shares(and bring their security rights) into a share on these DFS servers? i know i will have to remap their drives on their pc's to point to this new namespace.
i basically just want to move all the data away from these outside sans and servers and centralize them on the local storage that will be replicated between these 2 new dfs servers. i want to perform this move in a way that i can leverage DFS replicating the data so no data is left behind.
i thought with dfs i could do this, and maybe im mistaken. any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.
Hello,
After completing and verifying all steps outlined in example 3 on https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn296575.aspx, I receive error 0x000023EE when attempting to import the cloned database on the destination server. I have ensured that the folder structure was mirrored between the two servers, that all files were correctly pre-seeded, and that the DFSR database was successfully copied to the destination server.
Am I missing something?
Many thanks.
Hi,
We have a cluster which have two nodes. But only one node has resource or quorum volume. Another node is empty. It just likes a DFS. Let's say it is Node 2.
On node 2, there are 3 cluster disks. They are all offline after upgrading firmware for NAS.
I have searched many things, but still cannot figure out how to get them online.
Disk signatures are the same. I have got them from Diskpart, which is listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ClusDisk\Parameters -> AttachedDisks
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
+ update!
I want to get disks online. So that i could access the files in share folders.
