Hi ,
In our environment, maximum of all the Physical servers are being migrated to VMware farm. There are physical clusters too each with 2 nodes of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 64 bit edition. Each physical cluster is hosting file services, DFS & Print services through the Cluster service.
During the VMware migration , these 3 components in cluster are separated into individual VM's , 1.File server VM 2.DFS server VM 3.Print server VM
In the physical cluster , the file shares are stored in the volumes E: G: H: .These volumes are present in SAN connected through HBA Fibre channel .
Currently , the file shares are being robocopied to the new VM File server , found that there are problems after robocopy in the destination server related to permissions,
My question is why cant we create the same volumes related the file shares in the VM server providing those LUN's presented to the physical cluster instead of robocopy and only restostofrring the share details from the LANMAN share registry portion of the windows from the physical cluster.
DFS & Print servers can be easily restored to the new VM's, what we have found
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks & Regards S.Swaminathan Live & let others live!!!
