Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

we have a Windows Server 2012 R2 (fully patched)

On this Server we are running File and Storage Services. I was able to enable Shadow Copies on Volume F:\ (used space 419 GB, free space 5 TB)

When I try to enable shadow copies (rightclick on Volume -> Configure Shadow Copies -> click on Volume E:\ -> click on enable) on Volume e: (used space 82 TB, free space 5 TB) I get the following error from shadow copies:

Failed to create a shadow copy of volume E:\.

Error 0x80042306: the shadow copy provider had an error. Check the System and Application event logs for more information.

The applicationlog shows the following entry:

I also tried
vssadmin add shadowstorage /for=e: /on=e: /maxsize=unbounded
which gives me the following error:

Error: The specified shadow copy storage association already exists

The command
vssadmin create shadow /for=e:

results in the folling error and two applicationlog entries:

Error:

Error: The shadow copy provider had an error. Please see the system and application event logs for more information.
